The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Are Warning Folks About A Scam In Which A Person Is Claiming To Work For The Sheriff’s Office. Several Local Residents Have Been Scammed By Someone Who Claims The Person Has Failed To Appear For Jury Duty And Owes A Fine. They Then Ask For Credit Card Information, Or Ask You To Bring The Money To The Sheriff’s Office. Anyone Who Receives This Kind Of Call Should Call Police. Sheriff Wayne Anderson Reminds The Public That No Government Agency Will Ever Request Money Over The Phone.

TWO ADMIT TO ILLEGAL COCKFIGHTING

Two Owners Of A Cockfighting Arena In McDowell Kentucky Have Admitted To The Illegal Practice In U.S. District Court In Abingdon Virginia. 73 Year Old Shirley Slone And 69 Year Old Vernon Slone Each Pleaded Guilty To Conspiracy To Cause Others To Attend A Cockfight At Their Facility, Big Blue Sportman’s Club. The Pair Also Forfeited 100-Grand And Agreed To Pay For The Complete Destruction Of The Club. Prosecutors Claims For Over 20 Years, The Club Facilitated Illegal Cockfights, Gambling And Decades Of Cruel And Inhuman Animal Abuse.

SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA ROAD PROJECT SUBMITTED

Several Southwest Virginia Transportation Projects Are On The Preliminary List Recommended To The Commonwealth Transportation Board. The List Contains 136 Projects Totaling 968-Million Dollars. The List Includes Improvements In Bristol To The Lee Highway Intersection At Old Airport Road And The Intersection At Interstate 81’s Exit 7. In Abingdon, The Intersections Of Lee Highway And U.S. Highway 19 And U.S. 11 And 19 At Jonesboro Road. A Public Hearing To Allow For Public Comment Will Be Held At Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center In Abingdon April 13th At 5:30pm.

SULLIVAN COUNTY JUDGE JERRY BECK GIVES RESIGNATION

There Will Be A Judge Position Opening Soon In Sullivan County. The Honorable Judge Jerry Beck Has Given His Resignation To Governor Bill Haslam. Beck Is Set To Leave Office On June 30th. He Was Appointed To The Post In 1993. There’s Been No Reason Given As To Why Beck Decided To Resign. County Administrator Of Elections, Jason Booher, Reportedly Said Haslam Will Appoint One Of Three Individuals Who Will Be Nominated By A Trial Court Vacancy Commission To Take Beck’s Place To Serve Until September 1st 2018.

New Bristol Mall Owner, Ashwin Desai, With Sunstar Keshav Properties Out Of New Jersey, Has Different Plans For The Facility Than Retail. Sears Announced In January It Was Closing Stores In Kingsport And Bristol. The Johnson City Store Will Remain Open. Desai Said He Has No Plans To Close The Mall But Is Looking At The Possibilty Of Something Else Such As An Indoor Amusement Park. Nothing Has Been Finalized.

COUPLE ACCUSED OF TRYING TO SELL BABY ON CRAIGSLIST

A Greene County Man And Woman Accused Of Trying To Sell A Five Month Old Baby On Line, Are Set To Appear In General Sessions Court This Morning. 26 Year Old John Cain And 37 Year Old Deanna Greer Are Charged With Aggravated Child Abuse And Aggravated Child Neglect Or Endangerment Under The Haley’s Law Act. The Sheriff’s Office Was Contacted By The Tbi About A Posting On Craigslist Of A Baby For Sale. The Tbi Contacted The Suspects, Who Gave A Price Of Three Thousand Dollars For The Child. An Arrangement Was Set Up And Undercover Agents Made The Exchange At Dollar General Market. Cain And Greer Are Being Held On A 150-Thousand Dollars Bond Each.

GREENE COUNTY COUPLE RE-INDICTED IN MURDER OF CHILD

A Greene County Grand Jury Has Handed Down A New Indictment Against A Greeneville Couple Accused In The Death Of Two Small Children. The Superseding Presentment Charges 24 Year Old Kendra Tweed And 23 Year Old Erick Jones Jr. With First Degree Murder And Aggravated Child Neglect. Tweed Is Also Charged With Aggravated Child Endangerment And Jones Is Charged With Aggravated Child Abuse. Two Month Old Trinity Tweed Was Found Dead At A Home On North Hardin Street In December 2014. Authorities Said The Child Died From Blunt Force Trauma To The Neck Resulting In A Severed Spinal Cord. The Couple Is Also Charged With Murder In The Death Of 13 Month Old Kynsleigh Easterly. Tweed Is Set To Appear In Criminal Court On March 31st. Jones Has A Trial Date Set For January 18th.

SULLIVAN COUNTY WOMAN CHARGED IN SHOOTING INCIDENT

A Disagreement Over Music Has Lead To Shots Being Fired And A Woman Being Arrested In Sullivan County. 56 Year Old Debra Lingerfelt Is Charged With Aggravated Assault. It Happened At A Home On Walkers Private Drive In The Denton Valley Community. Lingerfelt Was Reportedly Upset The Neighbor Had Left Her Music On In Her Car. Lingerfelt Then Allegedly Fired Six Shots But No One Was Injured. She Will Appear In General Sessions Court On March 28th.

CARTER COUNTY DRUG ROUNDUP NETS 45 ARRESTS

A Joint Drug Investigation Between The Elizabethton Police Department And The Carter County Sheriff’s Office Has Resulted In 45 Suspects Being Charged With Drug Related Offenses. The Operation Has Been Ongoing For Around Seven Months. Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford Said The Roundup Was Designed To Target Individuals Who Have Been Engaging In The Sales, Trafficking, And Manufacture Of Illegal Narcotics, Particularly Crystal Methamphetamine And Prescription Medication.

In Addition To The Counterfeit Money, Investigators Found Schedule Two Drugs In Buchanan’s Vehicle. He’s Being Held In The Washington County Detention On A 22-Thousand Dollar Bond And Will Appear In General Sessions Court Soon.

Kingsport Officials Have Approved Transferring A Plot Of Land From The City To The Sullivan County Bristol Kingsport Animal Shelter. A Second Adjacent Plot Will Be Purchased By Sullivan County, While A Third Section Of Land Will Be Paid For By The City Of Bristol Tennessee And Community Donations. The 3.5 Million Dollar Facility Will Be Located Off Highway 11w In Kingsport. Construction Plans And Cost Estimates Will Be Finalized Soon.

James Littleton Is Accused Of Holding A Woman And Child In His Home Against Their Will And Setting Off A Smoke Bomb In The House. When Firefighters Tried To Enter The Residence, He Allegedly Threatened Them With A Gun. He’s Charged With Aggravated Kidnapping And Aggravated Domestic Assault. He Will Appear In Criminal Court On May 12th. His Bond Is Set At 125-Thousand Dollars.
