TRI CITIES AIRPORT BILL TO BE DISCUSSED

The Tennessee House Finance, Ways And Means Subcommittee Has Advanced A Bill Designed To Allow Tri Cities Airport To Borrow On The Credit Of Municipalities And Counties In Northeast Tennessee. The Bill Was Sponsored By Representative Timothy Hill. The Legislation Only Applies To The Single Airport. If Approved, It Would Allow The Municipalities To Form The Airport Authority. The Companion Bill In The Senate Is Expected To Be Heard Today By The Transportation And Safety Committee.

ABINGDON TO PARTICIPATE IN STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILL

The Town Of Abingdon, Virginia Will Be Participating In The Statewide Tornado Drill On Tuesday. The Town’s Alert Notification System Will Be Activated At 9:45 Am To Simulate An Actual Tornado Warning Notification. This Will Include The Town’s Warning Sirens As They Will Sound As Part Of This Drill. Citizens Are Asked To Not Call 911 In Regards To Warning Siren Inquiries.

MOORESBURG MAN SENTENCED FOR DRUG CONSPIRACY

A Mooresburg Man Has Been Ordered To Spend Time Behind Bars For Methamphetamine Conspiracy. 46 Year Old Steven Dwight Hopkins Admitted He Was Responsbile For At Least 1.5 Kilograms Of Meth. He Was Arrested Following A Traffic Stop On His Way To Obtain A Quarter Pound Of Meth. Hopkins Was Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison.

Kingsport Has Received A State Grant To Help Improve Its Downtown. The 50-Thousand Dollars Will Be Used To Encourage Job Growth In Established Downtown Commercial Districts And The Revitalization Of Vacant And Underused Buildings In Main Street Communities. Bristol Previously Received The First Round Of Grants From The Program.

Johnson City’s Fire Chief Has Announced His Retirement. Chief Mark Scott Joined The Johnson City Fire Department In 1987, Being Named Chief In 2011. City Manager Pete Peterson Said, Under Chief Scott, Fire Department Response Time Has Improved. The Search For A New Chief Is Currently Underway.

A Resolution Will Be Considered By Hawkins County Leaders Later This Month Concerning The Motto “In God We Trust” Placed In Prominent Locations In County Buildings, Including Offices And Schools. Commissioner B.D. Cradic Sponsored The Resolution And Said His Goal Is For Private Citizens And Businesses To Sponsor The Purchase Of The Plaques At No Cost To Taxpayers. The County Commission Will Consider The Resolution This Evening.

A Carter County Grand Jury Has Indicted A Johnson City Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting A Teen. 37 Year Old Christopher Fox Is Charged With Rape. The Victim, Who Was 14 Years Old Boy, Told Authorities He Was Allegedly Sexually Assaulted By Blevins During December 2015. Blevins Was The Boyfriend Of The Victim’s Mother. Fox Is Set To Appear In Criminal Court On March 21st.

A Head-On Collision In Washington County, Tennessee Has Claimed The Life Of A Local Woman. It Happened Last Night. 37 Year Old Shirra Branum Was Killed In The Crash. Her Nine Year Old Son Was Admitted To Johnson City Medical Center. The Driver Of The Second Vehicle, Alan Mogolon-Anaya Was Injured And Is In Stable Condition. His Three Children Remain In The Intensive Care Unit. The Investigation Is Continuing With Charges Pending.

JOHNSON CITY TEEN ARRESTED IN STABBING INCIDENT

Johnson City Police Have Arrested A Juvenile In Connection With A Stabbing Incident Earlier This Week On West Maple Street. The Victim, Mary Catherine Gross, Was Treated For Stab Wounds To The Back. She Claimed The Incident Stemmed From A Verbal Altercation. The Juvenile Is Charged With Attempted First-Degree Murder. He’s Being Held In The Juvenile Facility Until An Appearance Date In Johnson City Juvenile Court.
