Wellmont Health System Will Be Enhancing Breast Health As A Result Of 50-Thousand Dollars From The Susan G. Komen Foundation Of East Tennessee. 25-Thousand Will Be Given To Takoma Regional Hospital’s Diagnostic Center For Women’s Health And Another 25-Grand To Wellmont’s Breast Centers In Kingsport, Bristol And Johnson City. Wellmont Has Been A Recipient Of Komen Grants For The Past Ten Years And Will Use This Year’s Funding To Provide Routine Screenings And Underinsured With The Grant.

WCYB TV SOLD TO SINCLAIR

An Area Television Station Has Been Purchased. Sinclair Broadcasting Group Is Buying Wcyb In Bristol, Virginia Along With Other Bonten Media Television Stations. The Deal Is Worth 240 Million Dollars. Bonten Currently Owns 14 Televisions Stations In Eight Markets. The Transaction Must Be Approved By The Federal Communications Commission.

WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE SCHOOLS PRESENT DEFICIT

Washington County Tennessee School Leaders Have Proposed A Spending Plan To County Leaders That Includes A 1.4 Million Dollar Deficit. The Current Proposed Plan Is 66.9 Million Dollars And Still Includes A 1.3-Million Dollar 2-Percent Across-The-Bard Pay Increase For Employees. The Spending Plan Includes Eight New Positions. The Proposed Spending Plan Will Head To The County’s Budget Committee. If It Passes The Committee, It Will Go Before The Full Commission For A Vote.

Bristol Virginia Will Start A Passenger Rail Study This Year In An Effort To Entice Amtrak To Begin Passenger Service In The Twin City. Washington Dc Based Community Transportation Association Of America Will Conduct The Study At A Cost Of 450-Thousand Dollars. Amtrak Is Expected To Begin Providing Rail Service From Lynchburg To Roanoke Later This Year. Mayor Bill Hartley Is Excited About The Possibility Of Rail Service And Claims It Would Offer Unlimited Benefits.

A Co-Defendant, 23 Year Old Dallas Sarden Will Be Tried In A Separate Trial. A Convicted Killer, Jailed As A Teen For The Murders Of A Family In 1997 In Greene County, Has Been Denied A Motion To Reopen The Case. Karen Howell Petitioned The Court System In The Deaths Of The Lillelid Family At A Greene County Rest Area. Howell And Five Others Were Convicted 20 Years Ago For The Execution Style Murder Of The Family. A Federal Appeals Court Refused To Her An Appeal From Howell In 2013. She Cited In Her Complaint That She Received Ineffective Counsel During Her Trial.
