MORE INFORMATION HAS BEEN RELEASED CONCERNING AN OVERNIGHT SHOOTING IN THE SULLIVAN GARDENS SECTION OF KINGSPORT THAT ENDED IN A MAN BEING SHOT TO DEATH BY OFFICERS. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST NIGHT AROUND TEN THIRTY OFF HIGHWAY 93 WHEN SOMEONE CALLED IN A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. THEY CLAIMED TWO MEN HAD FLED THE SCENE PRIOR TO OFFICERS ARRIVING. SHERIFF WAYNE ANDERSON SAYS WHEN HIS DEPUTIES GOT THERE, THEY BEGAN SEARCHING FOR THE TWO MEN. OFFICERS WERE NEAR A CREEK WHEN THEY HEARD A SPLASH, SHINED THEIR FLASHLIGHTS AND DISCOVERED 44 YEAR OLD JAMES CLAUDE PARSONS JR. HE SAYS THE OFFICER WAS LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN KILLED.. ANDERSON SAYS HE BELIEVES PARSON WAS GOING TO AMBUSH HIS OFFICERS.. PARSON WAS WANTED ON CHARGES OF ASSAULT, ATTEMPTED MURDER, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, AGGRAVATED ROBBERY AND EVADING AND RESISTING ARREST. HE ALSO HAD A WARRANT ON CHARGES FROM A SEPARATE CASE. SHERIFF ANDERSON SAID HIS OFFICERS WENT BY THE BOOK. THE TBI IS INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT.
