Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey has been elected to head the state’s delegation to the Republican National Convention in September. The Blountville Republican was chosen at a recent meeting of the state’s 55 GOP delegates in Nashville. The delegation chairman’s responsibilities at the convention in
St. Paul, Minn., include announcing Tennessee’s votes for the
nominees for president and vice president. Ramsey, who also holds the title of lieutenant governor, campaigned for former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign before Thompson dropped out of the race. Ramsey later endorsed presumptive nominee John McCain.
