Environmentalists plan a court challenge to the state air board’s approval of a new coal-fired power plant in Wise county Virginia. John Suttles of the Southern Environmental Law Center says the organization will challenge the air board’s approval of emissions
permits for the Dominion Virginia Power plant in Wise County. The board reduced the mercury emission allowed to about half that recommended by the state Department of Environmental Quality. Suttles said the emission was not low enough to meet federal requirements, but a DEQ spokesman said its recommendation was based on emissions at comparable power plants. Company officials had no comment.
