A police roundup of 63 people indicted on charges involving prescription drugs is under way in Wise County Virginia. So far, 32 people have been gathered up by loca and state authorities. The mass arrests resulted from a joint investigation by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, the Southwest Virginia Narcotics Task Force and police departments in Big Stone Gap, Coeburn, Wise, Pound, St. Paul and the city of Norton. Authorities said they shifted their ongoing joint “Street Sweeper” investigation to target the illegal sale and use of prescription narcotics. To date, Operation Street Sweeper has nabbed more than 400 people since April 2006.
