The Bristol Virginia Redevelopment And Housing Authority Is Receiving A 41-Thousand Dollar Grant. The Money Is Coming From The U.S. Department Of Housing And Urban Development And Is Part Of HUD’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program. Participants Sign A Five-Year Contract That Requires They Obtain Employment And No Longer Get Cash Welfare Assistance Through The Term. As The Family Income Rises, A Portion Of The Increased Income Is Placed In An Interest-Bearing Escrow Account. If The Family Completes The Program, It Gets The Escrow Funds Which Can Be Used For Any Purpose.
