Hamblen County authorities say one of seven inmates who escaped from the Hamblen County Jail by overpowering a jailer is back in jail. Paul E. Long has been returned to jail. The remaining six inmates are not considered dangerous. Those still on the lam are Michael Curtis Long, Joshua Adkins, Michael Jess Banner, Nathan W. Carroll, Brandon S. Collins, and Nicholas Kyle Short. Chief Deputy Wayne Mize said the men asked the jailer for ice. When the jailer opened an annex to refill the inmates’ cooler, they pushed him inside, beat him and locked him inside. Mize said the inmates then went to a control room and hit a button that unlocks a door leading to the outside. He said the inmates were in jail on misdemeanor charges. The jailer was treated for minor abrasions and bruises.
