More than 26 percent of Virginia’s population received H1N1 vaccinations through January. State Health Commissioner Dr. Karen Remley says Virginia’s rate topped the national median of 23.9 percent. It also was higher than the regional rate of 23 percent. Remley said that the state’s strategy of concentrating on reaching school-aged children made a difference. Nearly 40 percent of children between 6 months and 17 years old were vaccinated against the flu virus during the period. Thirty-seven H1N1-related deaths, including three children, have been reported in Virginia.
