A Federal Grand Jury In U.S. District Court In Abingdon Has Indicted 23 People Throughout Southwest Virginia Accused Of Trying To Defraud The U.S. Government By Filing Fraudulent Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Claims. The Claims Were Made Through The Virginia Employment Commission Website And Totaled More Than 499-Thousand Dollars. A Number Of The People Involved Were Inmates In Jail Facilities. Local Investigators From The Norton Police Department And Russell County Sheriff’s Office Assisted In The Probe.
