FIRST DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN DAVID DAVIS OF JOHNSON CITY SAYS MANY OF HIS CONSTITUENTS HAVE VOICED CONCERNS TO HIM ABOUT FOREIGN IMPORTS COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES. SO HE RECENTLY TOOK A FACT-FINDING TRIP TO EL PASO TEXAS. DAVIS ALSO CO-SPONSORED A HOUSE BILL KNOWN AS “THE SAFE TOYS FOR KIDS” ACT WHICH MANDATES THAT EACH MANUFACTURER AND LABELER OF ANYTHING USED BY CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OF AGE CERTIFY THAT THE PRODUCT IS NOT BANNED OR HAZARDOUS. THE CONGRESSMAN SAYS ALL FOREIGN IMPORT PRODUCTS HEADED FOR THIS COUNTRY SHOULD BE SCRUTINIZED. DAVIS ALSO HELPED TO PASS “THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY MODERNIZATION ACT” WHICH WILL INCREASE FUNDING FOR THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION AND EXPAND ITS AUTHORITY.
