The Department Of Homeland Security Has Placed Several Southwest Virginia Communities On Its List Of Sanctuary Jurisdictions, Sparking Pushback From Local Officials. The DHS List Includes Abingdon And Duffield, Along With Tazewell And All Of Tazewell County. The Abingdon Police Department Says It Was Not Notified Or Informed Why It Was Classified As A Sanctuary Jurisdiction And Immediately Contacted Congressman Morgan Griffith’s Office For Assistance. The Police Department Says It Has Been Advised That Abingdon Will Be Removed From The List And States It Fully Complies With Federal Law.
