Kingsport’s School Board Has Updated Its Random Drug Testing Policy For Students In Voluntary Extracurricular Activities. The Board Voted 3 To 0 To Approve The Changes With Two Members Absent. The Updated Policy Clarifies Procedures For Missed Tests Due To School Events And Shifts Language About Retest Rights And Start Dates For Penalties. Students Who Test Positive Face Penalties Starting At A Fourteen-Day Suspension From Activities, With Increasing Consequences For Repeat Offenses. The Program Is Run Through Ballad Health And Only Applies To Students In Voluntary Programs, Not The General Student Body. The Policy Will Take Effect July 1st For The 2025 School Year.
