A Hancock County principal may face charges for allegedly spanking a 13-year-old student. The local prosecutor says he is seeking corporal punishment charges against Hancock County High School and Middle School Principal Thomas Zachary. District Attorney General Berkeley Bell said the student claimed he was paddled twice on the same day in November by Zachary, leaving serious bruises that sent him to the emergency room. The principal was placed on administrative leave Feb. 8 after several parents complained to the Hancock County Board of Education about a general lack of discipline at the schools. The district attorney says he is seeking misdemeanor and felony charges, neither of which have been filed. The case will be sent to a grand jury April 1.
