A Hawkins County Man Accused Of Damaging Dozens Of Historic Graves With A Wire Brush Is Facing Charges. 51 Year Old Richard Stroop Is Charged With Trespass On Or Injury To Cemetery Property. Nearly 70 Tombstones In The Cemetery Of The Historic New Presbyterian Church In Surgoinsville Were Damaged. Stroop Had Been Photographing The Tombstones And Used The Wire Brush To Rub Them So The Names Would Show Up Better In Photographs. He Said He Didn’t Realize He Was Doing Any Harm. Stroop Is Free On Bond And Is Scheduled For Arraignment Monday.
