Washington County Virginia Leaders Have Decided To Abandon An Ordinance That Would Allow Hydrofracking In The County. This Is The Process Of Pumping Chemical And Sand-Laced Water Into The Ground To Create Cracks In The Rock, Allowing Natural Gas To Flow Out. The County’s Original Ordinance Dictated Where Hydrofracking Could Take Place In The County And Included Regulations Such As Water Testing And Ways To Reduce Light Pollution. Instead, County Leaders Have Decided To Draft A Proposed Less-Restrictive Ordinance That Allows Hydrofracking County-Wide By Special Exemption Permits. This Allows Each Case To Be Examined Individually.
