Tennesseans with fossils, rocks, mineral and artifacts can have their finds identified at “Fossil and Artifact ID Night.” The event is sponsored by the East Tennessee State University and General Shale Natural History Museum and Visitor Center at the Gray Fossil Site. Scientists with backgrounds in paleontology, archaeology and geology will be on hand to help with the identification and also take photographs of the specimens. Brett Woodward, collections manager for the museum, said seeing what visitors bring to “Fossil and Artifact ID Night” helps the scientists to better understand the region’s past. The event takes place on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. The museum will not appraise fossils or artifacts.
