Hawkins County Leaders Have Taken No Action During A Recent Meeting Concerning A Proposed 40-Dollar Wheel Tax Increase. The Increase Is An Attempt To Generate Revenue To Correct A 2-Million Dollar Deficit The County Faces In The 2017-18 General Fund Budget. While The Wheel Tax Would Generate An Increase, There Is Concern Now For Families Or People On A Fixed Income. Former State Representative Candidate John Neubert Has Suggested Cutting The Tax Increase In Half To Make It Easier. The Next County Commission Meeting Is Set For December 19th.
