Tennessee lawmakers are trying to agree on legislation that would require offenders charged with drunken driving to have ignition interlock devices installed in their vehicles. One bill sponsored by Representative Tony Shipley, a Republican from Kingsport, would require a person arrested with a blood alcohol content of 0.15, and who requests a restricted driver’s license, to have one of the devices installed. But a measure sponsored by Democratic Rep. Henry Fincher of Cookeville would mandate that a person with a BAC of 0.08 get a device regardless of whether they have a restricted license. Shipley was asked to delay his bill in the House Criminal Practice and Procedure subcommittee on Wednesday so lawmakers can further study the measure.
