The Virginia Department Of Agriculture And Consumer Services Has Said Wild American Ginseng Is A Threatened Species In The Commonwealth And There Are Prohibitions And Restrictions From Harvesting It On Public Lands. Those Regulations Include Replacing Each Plant With Seeds From The One Dug. Last Year There Were About 2,400 Pounds Of Ginseng Roots Harvested In Virginia, With A Value Of About $1 Million. The Harvest Runs Through The End Of The Year.
