Charlie Von Cannon, The Owner Of The Old Bemberg Industrial Property In Elizabethton Has Voiced His Concerns Regarding The Establishment Of A Tax Increment Financing District And The Desire For Some Citizens To Raise The Former Rayon Plant. Von Cannon Has Turned A Section Of The Old Building Into A Small Business Incubator, Which He Claims Has Created 23-Million Dollars In Wages In The Past 20 Years. Elizabethton Planning Director Jon Hartman Assured Von Cannon That The Tax Increment Financing District Has No Authority To Demolish The Buildings. The Tif District Must Be Approved By The Carter County Commission Monday And Then Go Before The Elizabethton Housing And Development Agency For Approval In April.
