AN ELIZABETHTON MAN ACCUSED OF HITTING A CARTER COUNTY SHERIFF’S CRUISER HEADON HAS HAD HIS CASE BOUND OVER TO A GRAND JURY. 24 YEAR OLD JACOB WARD IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED SECOND DEGREE MURDER, DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE SECOND OFFENSE, FELONY RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT AND SPEEDING. WARD WAS ALLEGEDLY TRAVELING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR WHEN DEPUTY MATT LUNCEFORD USED HIS CRUISER TO BLOCK THE HIGHWAY SO INNOCENT DRIVERS WEREN’T INJURED OR KILLED. WARD STRUCK THE DEPUTY’S VEHICLE AT NEARLY 80 MILES PER HOUR. OFFICER LUNCEFORD HAS SINCE RECOVERED FROM HIS INJURIES. NO COURT DATE FOR WARD HAS BEEN SET.
