ANOTHER PART OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA WILL SOON BE RECEIVING BROADBAND INTERNET SERVICES. THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, THROUGH ITS RURAL UTILITIES SERVICES, IS PROVIDING A 594-THOUSAND DOLLAR FEDERAL GRANT TO THE LENOWISCO PLANNING DISTRICT COMMISSION, OFFICIALS PLAN TO BUILD A FIBER-TO-THE-HOME BROADBAND NETWORK IN THE ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY OF LEE COUNTY. IN ADDITION, THE GRANT WILL BE USED TO PURCHASE TEN NEW COMPUTER WORKSTATIONS FOR THE ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY CENTER WITH HIGH-SPEED INTERNET ACCESS TO LIBRARY PATRONS. THE FUNDING WILL ALSO PROVIDE FREE INTERNET SERVICE FOR ST. CHARLES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THE ST. CHARLES VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
