JOHNSON CITY OFFICIALS HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO BUILD A NEW SENIOR CENTER. WELL IN THE PROCESS OF SEARCHING, THEY LOCATED WHAT COULD BE THE IDEAL SITE FOR THE FACILITY AS WELL AS A LOCATION FOR THE CITY’S NEWEST PARK. OFFICIALS ARE CONSIDERING 19 ACRES OF LAND ON AVONELA DRIVE. THE PRIME TRACT COULD EASILY ACCOMODATE THE PROPOSED FACILITY AS WELL AS PROVIDE REPLACEMENT PARK LAND AS THE CITY WORKS TO CONVERT OPTIMIST PARK ALONG NORTH STATE OF FRANKLIN ROAD TO COMMERCIAL PROPERTY. THE LAND IS EXPECTED TO HAVE A PRICE TAG OF JUST OVER 1.1 MILLION DOLLARS. THE CITY HAS AGREED TO APPRAISE THE PROPERTY AND TEST THE SOIL. BOTH TESTING AND THE APPRAISAL ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE UP TO SIX WEEKS TO BE COMPLETED.
