Northeast Tennessee Residents Will Soon Be Required To Use 10-Digit Dialing For All Local Phone Calls. Mandatory 10-Digit Dialing Will Be Required In Northeast Tennessee Beginning August Fifth. Anyone With A 423 Area Code Will Be Affected Including Communities Such As Chattanooga, Bristol, Johnson City, Greeneville And Kingsport. All Local Calls Within The 423 Area Code That Are Currently Dialed With Seven Digits Will Need To Be Dialed Using 10 Digits. The Change Is Needed To Ensure New Telephone Numbers Are Available As A New 729 Area Code Will Serve The Same Geographic Region.
