Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns says an autopsy has been requested on the body of a man who died shortly after he began serving a jail sentence. Burns says 50-year-old Michael Ray Sams of Greeneville turned himself in at the Greene County Detention Center last Thursday evening to begin serving a 45-day sentence for drunken driving. The sheriff says jailers discovered after midnight that Sams was having trouble breathing. He died later at a hospital. Sams reportedly had a history of heart problems and told jail staff that he had only taken prescribed medication that he brought with him. The investigation is continuing.
