Carter County Mayor Leon Humphrey Has Vetoed The Annual Budget That Included A 12-Cent Property Tax Increase. This Is The Second Year In A Row That Humphrey Has Used His Veto Power. He Gave Two Reasons As To Why. The First Was The Commission’s Action Went Against An Opinion Of The State Attorney General And Secondly, Humphrey Felt The Budget Was Not Sustainable And Would Require The 2015-16 Budget To Be Increased By 15 Cents. The Commission May Either Approve A New Budget Or It Could Override The Mayor’s Veto By A Simple Majority Of 13 Votes.
