The Hawkins County Board Of Education Is Seeking A 12-Cent Property Tax Rate Increase To Help Balance The 2014-15 Fiscal Year Spending Plan. Director Of Schools Steve Starnes Feels The School System Is On An Unsustainable Path Without Any New Revenue. Schools Were 4-Million Dollars In The Red. So Far, Just Over 2.7 Million Dollars In Cuts Have Been Made Leaving The System With A 2.22 Million Dollar Deficit. The Topic Is Expected To Be Discussed Again At The August 5th School Board Meeting.
