HELPING AREA FARMERS

Sep 13, 2007

WITH AREA LIVESTOCK FARMERS EXPERIENCING WATER SHORTAGE DUE TO THE SUMMER DROUGHT, THE SULLIVAN COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY OFFICE HAS COME UP WITH A WAY TO HELP THE FARMERS. IN COOPERATION WITH AREA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS, OFFICIALS HAVE ESTABLISHED A PROGRAM TO SHUTTLE WATER TO FARMERS WHO ARE IN NEED FOR THEIR LIVESTOCK. ACCORDING TO JERRY FLEENOR, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SULLIVAN COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY, FIRE PROTECTION WILL NOT BE COMPROMISED BY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS WORKING IN THESE SHUTTLE-SERVICE EFFORTS. THOSE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE CAN CONTACT THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICE AT 323-6912. THE PROGRAM COULD START AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK.
