With The Loss Of Coal In Southwest Virginia, Gate City Delegate Terry Kilgore Is Looking To Fill The Void With Renewable Energy Sources Such As Wind And Solar Power. House Bill 1760, Which Passed In The General Assembly Recently, Deals With The Costs Of Pumped Hydroelectricity And Storage Facilities That Are Located In The Coalfield Region . It Would Authorize The Building Of Such Facilities In Those Areas. The Legislation Encourages Investor-Owned Incumbent Electric Utilities To Pursue Such Options. Kilgore Believes This Would Be An Economic Drive To The Region.
