A 27-YEAR OLD BRISTOL VIRGINIA TRADITION THAT WAS TO TAKE PLACE TODAY HAS BEEN POSTPONED. DUE TO RAINY CONDITIONS, THE ANNUAL “TWIN CITY’S CHRISTMAN TREE LIGHTING” CEREMONY IN CUMBERLAND SQUARE WON’T TAKE PLACE UNTIL TUESDAY EVENING AT 6:30. SPONSORED BY BRISTOL VIRGINIA UTILITIES, THIS YEAR’S EVENT WILL FEATURE THE LIGHTING OF TWO TREES – THE ORIGINAL 45-FOOT NORWEGIAN BLUE SPRUCE DONATED IN 1980, AND A NEW 24 FOOT FIR TREE DONATED BY JOHN AND EVON OLSON. THE LIGHTING OF THE TREE – AND ITS 30-THOUSAND WHITE LIGHTS – WILL OCCURE AT 7 P.M. THE EVENT WILL INCLUDE MUSIC FROM THE VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND AND THE TRI CITIES CHRISTIAN SCHOOL CHORUS. THERE WILL BE FREE HOT COCOA, CIDER, AND COOKIES TO ENJOY.
