IT MAY BE AWHILE BEFORE A SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA COAL MINE IN BUCHANAN COUNTY IS UP AND RUNNING AGAIN. CONSOL ENERGY OFFICIALS HAVE SAID MONITORING STATIONS AT THE TEMPORARILY CLOSED BUCHANAN NUMBER ONE MINE CONTINUE TO SHOW AIR QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS. THE UNDERGROUND MINE WAS SHUTDOWN AFTER ROOF FALS AND A POSSIBLE FIRE LAST WEEK. THE COMPANY HAD TO EVACUATE 120 MINERS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. ENGINEERS HAVE SUBMITTED PLANS TO FEDERAL AND STATE SAFETY AGENCIES TO DRILL SEVERAL HOLES INTO THE MINE TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL MONITORING POINT AND TO PUMP INERT GAS OR WATER THROUGH THE HOLES IF NEEDED.
