EASTMAN CHEMICAL COMPANY IN KINGSPORT WILL BE INVESTING 200 MILLION DOLLARS IN EQUIPMENT TO REDUCE AIR EMISSIONS. THE MOVE IS PART OF THE COMPANY’S EFFORTS INVOLVING A 1.3 BILLION DOLLAR “PROJECT REINVEST.” EASTMAN WILL INSTALL ADDITIONAL AIR POLLUTION CONTROL EQUIPMENT ON FIVE INDUSTRIAL BOILERS AT THE KINGSPORT FACILITY. THIS WILL BE THE LARGEST SINGLE POLLUTION CONTROL PROJECT EVER UNDERTAKEN AT EASTMAN’S TENNESSEE OPERATIONS. EASTMAN OFFICIALS HOPE THE PROJECT WILL NOT ONLY ASSIST TENNESSEE IN MEETING ITS REGIONAL HAZE GOALS BUT WILL ALSO HELP THE NORTHEAST TENNESSEE AREA REMAIN IN ATTAINMENT OF AIR QUALITY STANDARDS.
