A BRISTOL VIRGINIA MAN IS IN JAIL AFTER HE HELD WASHINGTON COUNTY VIRGINIA AUTHORITIES AT BAY FOR ABOUT TEN HOURS YESTERDAY. SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES WERE ATTEMPTING TO SERVE A WARRANT WHEN SHOTS FROM A 12-GUAGE RIFLE RANG OUT, RESULTING IN A DEPUTY AS WELL AS THE SUSPECT BEING SHOT. OFFICERS WERE INVESTIGATING COMPLAINTS THATTHE MAN WAS OPERATING A METH LAB WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. 40 YEAR OLD MICHAEL DWAYNE JACKSON ALLEGEDLY OPENED FIRE ON DEPUTIES FROM INSIDE THE CAMPER ON CHILDRESS HOLLOW ROAD. JACKSON WAS TREATED AND RELEASED AT JOHNSTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. THE OFFICER, LT. SCOTT SNAPP, WAS SHOT IN THE LOWER LEGS AND ABDOMEN. HE IS BEING TREATED, AND REMAINS IN THE HOSPITAL IN STABLE CONDITION. AUTHORITIES FOUND COMPONENTS OF A METH LAB INSIDE THE CAMPER. JACKSON’S BEEN CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED CAPITAL MURDER AND TWO COUNTS OF USE OF A FIREARM IN THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY. HE IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND IN THE SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA REGIONAL JAIL IN ABINGDON. SHERIFF NEWMAN SAID JACKSON COULD ALSO BE FACING FEDERAL CHARGES SURROUNDING THE DISCOVERY OF THE METH LAB.
