A NUCLEAR FUEL SERVICES EMPLOYEE IS BACK TO WORK IN ERWIN TENNESSEE AFTER BEING SPRAYED WITH RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL. NFS SPOKESMAN TONY TREADWAY SAID A MALE EMPLOYEE WAS CLEANING OUT A LINE IN THE BLENDED LOW ENRICHED URANIUM PROCESSING FACILITY WHEN HE WAS SPRAYED ON THE NECK WITH A CAUSTIC MATERIAL THAT CONTAINED RADIOACTIVITY. THE MAN WAS PLACED IN A SPECIAL SHOWER TO REMOVE THE CONTAMINATE AND THEN TAKEN TO UNICOI COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL TO BE EXAMINED. THE MAN WAS NOT INJURED AND TREADWAY SAID NFS IS TAKING STEPS TO ENSURE IT DOESN’T HAPPEN AGAIN. THE INCIDENT DIDN’T HAVE TO BE REPORTED TO THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION.
